Additional information on the progress of IEC 62368-1 edition 3: The final draft of IEC 62368-1 edition 3 is due for circulation by the end of April 2018. IEC publication target is still Q3 2018. EN 62368-1 or UL 62368-1 are based on IEC 62368-1(edition 2.0), which is the new standard to cover the products under IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065. In comparison to these two standards, IEC 62368-1 has been totally rewritten and so its structure and logic are completely different. Edition No. 3 of IEC 62368-1 will not become mandatory until it is adopted in Europe, the U.S. and elsewhere and has an associated DOW in Europe and Effective Date in the U.S. If IEC 62368-1 Edition 3 is published in 2018, and national versions of Edition 3 are published in 2019 - in the EU (as EN 62368-1 Ed 3) and US (as UL 62368-1 Ed 3), these formal transition dates (DOW/Effective Date) likely will not be until approximately three (3) years from publication, or sometime in 2022.
Noncompliant products can’t be sold in major markets beyond the effective date, so plan ahead to ensure your products carry 62368-1 certification and avoid costly delays. If IEC 62368-1 Edition 3 is published in 2018, and national versions of Edition 3 are published in 2019 - in the EU (as EN 62368-1 Ed 3) and US (as UL 62368-1 Ed 3), these formal transition dates (DOW/Effective Date) likely will not be until approximately three (3) years from publication, or sometime in 2022. As a recap, Edition No. 3 of IEC 62368-1 is scheduled for publication around 3Q 2018. Then it is up to individual regions and countries to adopt it, which can take from months to several years.

IEC 62368-1 (UL 62368-1 and CSA 62368-1) merges IEC 60065, the electrical safety standard for audio, video and similar equipment, and IEC 60950-1, the standard for electrical equipment for information processing, office machinery and telecom equipment.
